Oda Teases a Potential Matchup for Usopp in One Piece Chapter 1142

The Straw Hat Pirates arrived on Elbaf, the home of the Giants, quite some time ago. They’ve been learning about the history of the Giants and Nika in the One Piece manga. Although the arc is well underway, we are yet to see the much-anticipated glow-up, or power-up, whatever you want to call it, for God Usopp. If you aren’t aware, it’s been theorized that Usopp will take a huge leap towards achieving his goal of becoming the brave warrior of the seas in the ongoing Elbaf arc. Now, with the arrival of the God’s Knights and their assault on the children of Elbaf in One Piece chapter 1142, the stage has been finally set for Usopp to steal the spotlight.
Spoiler Warning:
This article includes heavy spoilers for the One Piece manga. We suggest you read the manga to avoid ruining the intended experience.
Usopp’s Perfect Contender Has Finally Shown Up on Elbaf
Usopp has been on cloud nine since he set foot in Elbaf. The Straw Hat Pirates have since split up into two groups; Luffy and the bunch freeing Loki from his shackles, Usopp partying with the giants, and the remaining members learning about the history of Elbaf.
It was one of Usopp’s dreams to visit the country of the giants, and no wonder he was seen drunk and enjoying himself in the previous chapter. It was strange to see Usopp partying while the other crew members were on a quest. However, we might not have to wait any longer to see Usopp in action. The two new God’s Knights members who Gunko summoned were seen kicking off their plan to kidnap the children of Elbaf, lulling them into a deep sleep and making their fears come to life.
Oda shows a glimpse of Saint Killingam and Sommers’ powers in One Piece Chapter 1142. While the former seems like the cause behind the Elbaf children falling asleep, Shepherd Sommers must have the power to let their nightmares turn into reality. Turning everyone’s fear into a reality is a scary power, but the Straw Hats already have a perfect counter for it — God Usopp!
Usopp Can Potentially Take Down New God’s Knight Members

Remember when every Straw Hat Pirate was affected by Perona’s “Negative Hollow” attack, but it didn’t work against Usopp as he was always negative? I figure Usopp will achieve a similar feat in this dire situation. The main trio of the Straw Hats, namely Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji, are busy tackling another calamity since Loki has been freed. While Nico Robin and Chopper are at the school, seeing the children walking away from their sight like zombies. We expect Usopp to join them soon, as the giants require serious help with this situation.
Now, there are two possibilities for how Usopp can triumph against the God’s Knights. Either all his fears will be let out, making the fear powers get burned out quickly, or the nightmares get real weak due to overuse. The other case is where Usopp fears the two new members, then it can’t become a reality as they are already here in the flesh. So, it may seem like Usopp is fearless in the eyes of the giants, while leaving the God’s Knight members baffled at the same time.
Usopp already lied to the giants about beating Oars, and they see him as a mighty warrior. Now, it is time for him to turn his lies into reality and become the brave warrior of the sea as he always dreamt of. Fans expected Franky to shine in Egghead arc since it was a futuristic sci-fi-like arc, but it wasn’t the case. Still, we sincerely hope Oda lets Usopp take the center stage in Elbaf, and hopefully, we see him get his deserved character development, which has been missing for a long time.
The Parallels Between Loki and Usopp’s Character

Ever since Oda introduced Loki in the story, it’s crystal clear that he shares big similarities to our sniper, Usopp. As the Elbaf arc continues, fans cannot help but notice the various striking parallels between Usopp and Loki.
For starters, both of them have been branded as the Master of Lies by their villagers. In the Syrup Village arc, no one believed Usopp when he uncovered the truth about Kuro, who worked as Kaya’s butler.
Similarly, fans predict that King Harald or Elder Jarul could be the antagonist, and in turn, Loki received the blame for killing his father. Even if he tried to prove that he didn’t commit any crime, no one would have believed him as he was labelled a cold-hearted trickster. Therefore, Usopp and Loki’s storyline could intertwine and lead to a redemption arc for these characters.
